The Beauty of Women's Polo

Reviews of the Script from around the globe

If you would like to read the script, email David Marlett at dmbluerun@gmail.com

I love how the script is not just about the characters (which are great!) but about the sport itself.  I have to admit that I didn't really know anything about polo and had absolutely no idea how exciting, dangerous and interesting it is.  I would love to see this film come to life so it can bring more attention to this amazing sport. -- KS (USA)

Loved the script. An epic polo story...doesn't get much better than that. So visually written, I felt like I was there. -- KR (USA)

At 3:30 this morning I sat bolt upright and read the OK&C script start to finish with a half-hour break in the middle to rest my eyes. I believe you nailed it with this one, senor. Could not put it aside, coffee got cold…the swift current carried me happily all the way to the last page. It was fast, exciting, elegant, complex….a stunning screenplay. You and your cadre are apt to hit the jackpot, right on the button. I’m not one to forge feigned flattery, so you know. And, by the way...the sunrise caught me crying. As mentioned, you really nailed it. --LD (USA)

Cowboys. Polo. Redemption. Love. Family. This film to me has it all plus you tell a pretty good tale. You are an accomplished screenwriter. I enjoyed it and was rooting for our hard luck hero who in spite of himself, and because of his decency and best instincts, overcomes his worst instincts and perseveres. Bravo. There is a lot to look at in this one, the way you write about horses is very rare. I can see them, feel their emotion and pain...and the story moves well, is sometimes exotic in the worlds it covers, but the emotions are basic and heartfelt and one does come to love these characters. Nice job. -- PB (USA)

You made me cry three times, not easy to do. The horse is honored beautifully... the cinematography will be stunning... a visual moving art work... the horses as emotional beings unto themselves and participating... to so respectfully bring the viewer into the heart of the 'game' is a gift to them... never before given. I commend you. -- NK (USA)

WOW! I think that was the best script I've ever read! Throughout the whole thing I was so excited by the sport, but the love story made me cry. The words at the end really touched me. I was able to visualize everything SO well and the beautiful story and smart writing make it that much easier a job on the actors and director. It is an epic and a scriptworthy of Hollywood greatness. I love the Spanish language as it's so beautiful to hear in a movie. I think it covers all areas artistic and business-wise and anyone of any age or demographic can enjoy this movie. -- LM (USA)

Shakespeare on horseback. If the Bard had played polo, this is the story he would have told. -- DE (UK)

I am impressed with the finer details of your writing, describing plays & strategy...spot-on, succinct work on what could otherwise lose an audience. The element of concentric love stories adds wonderfully subtle and complex undertones to the polo storyline. And I appreciate the immensity of your undertaking, the amount of research and number of reliable sources required to present a cohesive and believable representation of polo and its accompanying lifestyle. The sport has evaded many previous attempts to capture its essence in live and recorded broadcasting. Happily, you possess all the creative and industry tools necessary to create a product reflecting the depth of the characters and their issues, supported by the undercurrent of the grit, guts, and glamour of polo. Ultimately, your work represents the lifeblood of all of us dedicated to polo. I look forward to the continuing development and ultimate success of your hard work! -- TW (AS)

I was expecting a bit of cheese, the pros sleeping with patrons wives, Argies sleeping with everyone - but this is not the case! At all. What a fine, simple but effective script. What a real, slice of polo life, high energy keeping you interested, mix it with the beautiful locations, a small cast of true, believable characters, some awesome camera angles in the games and you have a great script! Plus with some deep emotional bits thrown in there... I must say you had me big time there!! And even the stupid little but so cute hand signals that those two have - just made it so real and made me smile every time. You have done so well in keeping the energy, keeping it about the game, the horses, the people and just flavouring it with the parties and social side - I thought at first it needed more parties but now I don't think it needs to have anymore! -- KU (UK)

I was as intrigued as anyone else when I saw this project, so I arranged to meet David in Dallas when I was there a couple of weeks ago. He sent me the script prior, which I read on the plane, and when we met, we sat down for hours discussing the sport, the script, and most importantly, getting the film made (financing!) I really enjoyed reading the script and I think it will make a great film, long overdue, whether you are a polo lover or not, as it has many layers and well developed characters and storyline. He is really interesting to talk to, and as you can see from his bio, very passionate about getting this wonderful film up on the big screen - and he also loves the sport of polo. If you really do want to get involved, I would recommend you also get in touch with David and find out more. -- CL (US)

I finally had the chance to sit down and read the script this holiday weekend. And not being a professional script reader, I was afraid that it was going to be tough going. But the time flew by and I found myself unable to put it down. Having been to several of the places you mentioned, it was easy to visualize the excitement of the matches, and the back stories were so easy to believe. I look forward to hearing more about this project.-- TL (AR)

I have had an opportunity to finish your script on a flight back from Cairo last week and was impressed by its completeness. There are a lot of good angles and things that I checked off my list as I read through the script. It looks like a good solid property with lots of potential. -- DR (UK)

Script reads well, like a book, which is good. I like the angle, polo as rough sport instead of as stupid champagne poser fest. It is infinitely more interesting when approached that way. Everyone has seen the "society" aspect of polo. Show them the other side; the dirt and the sweat and the pain and the tenderness. -- JB (FR)

For me, this thing has a chance to be the real deal. That's not easy to say for a movie about polo, but I captured me within the setup of the first few scenes. I felt I was there. Now I can also tell you that I am a "sap" when it comes to being a real horsemen, nothing intrigues me more than the psychological study of horses. That may be what keeps people watching from the start. Polo is the greatest horse sport there is, however any true horsemen will stay tuned if they watch from the start. I see a real chance here to show our sport like never before. -- DS (US)

Well guys & girls I've finished reading the script and fucking hell is it powerful. Had tears in my eyes and could feel and live the emotion. Real men DO cry!!! I've been talking with David over the last past days and I'm getting involved in this project so who of you out there has the balls to follow me and get the first polo movie out there? -- PA (UAE)

This would be a good thing for polo. You really touched on the polo lifestyle. We are definitely playing the greatest game on earth and I can see you love to share that with others. I wish you the best. -- CW (UK)

I have read the script and like your concepts and ideas very much. I really like making "polo" the background story, rather than the point of the movie. -- NS (AR)

I really liked it. Thanks for letting me read it. I think you did an amazing job making something as exclusive as polo interesting to the average person. -- JA (AS)
